The conference was organised by the Cassa Nazionale di Previdenza e Assistenza Forense (National Pension Fund for the Legal Profession) and Mediobanca. The Associazione degli Enti di Previdenza Privati (Association of Private Pension Funds), Assicurazioni Generali and Mediolanum also took part. It was held in Rome in the new auditorium of the Cassa Forense on 15-16 November 2000.
Subjects covered included: the development of pension funds and the impact this has had on financial markets, issues arising from the introduction of private pension schemes alongside state pensions, and how pension funds operate. Among the speakers were Andrea Amatucci, Mario Baldassarri, Maria Luisa Ceprini, Pierluigi Ciocca, Fulvio Coltorti, Maurizio de Tilla, Ennio Doris, Elsa Fornero, Lucio Francario, Gianfranco Gutty, Franco Modigliani, Andrea Monorchio, Paolo Onofri, Paolo Savona and Francesco Saverio Vinci. Carlo Benetti, Laurent Huck, Sergio Marini, Nicola Messina and Martin Nijkamp contributed to the discussion in their professional capacity as fund managers. The conference drew to a close with two round-table discussions, in which Luigi Abete, Giuliano Cazzola, Innocenzo Cipolletta, Roberto Colaninno, Rinaldo Fadda, Gian Maria Gros-Pietro, Giorgio La Malfa, Alberto Lina, Antonio Marzano and Pietro Larizza took part.
